Crunch the News is a topical news show, which invites members of the panel to choose their favourite news story of the day for discussion. Panellists (and hosts) vary; the panel I saw had an MSP, a two comedians and a blogger/activist, besides the host.

The show has a really good concept, although the execution was a little lacking. Each individual contributor was good, with interesting points to make, but they didn’t work together as a whole particularly well – a hazard of being cutting edge and constantly changing. Interestingly, I though Patrick Harvey MSP dealt with the format best, and it was interesting to see a politician perform outside their own arena.

This show was most engaging when discussing the issues raised, rather than when trying rather too hard to find something funny in them.
