Dinosaur Zoo – 5*****

| On 22, Aug 2014

We’re promised laughter, fear, and tears, and got plenty of the first two, and just a little of the last. For anyone who has ever been a dinosaur fan, this show is an absolute must. Borrow a friend’s child if you’d feel awkward without one, but find a way to go to this show.

From young fans to old, there’s something to learn in this show, and exciting things to see. Baby dinosaurs start the show gently, with host Lindsay getting the audience to repeat names and key terms to help them sink in.

We quickly meet insects, like giant dragonflies, small friendly dinosaurs in need of eye-drops, and the scary Austalovenator. This is the Aussie version of the T-Rex – only better, scarier, with bigger forearms and more intelligence.

The show swung from scary moments to the slapstick “dino in the middle” game, all while sneaking in plenty of education.

Enormous, gentle Titanosaur rounded it all off in style, before the audience got to leave and meet the baby dinosaurs outside – and even Australovenator went for a stroll around outside the Pleasance Grand. Let’s hope nope of the children had nightmares – I suspect a few amateur paleontologists had thrilling dreams!
