A Game of Loners – 3*** - One4Review

A Game of Loners – 3***

| On 21, Aug 2014

Three of the brighter up and coming comedians of the Scottish scene have joined together to stage an hour of comedy as part of The Scottish Comedy Festival at The Beehive Inn.

The night I attended started with Gareth Waugh opening up proceedings to a multicultural audience including as many Aussies and Americans as the more locals. As always Waugh, an easy going comic made everyone feel at ease with his self-deprecating material and chats with the audience in equal measures and acquitted himself well as always.

Robin Grainger picked up the baton and ran with it as I have grown to expect having seen him perform many times over the last couple of years. His material is definitely funny and well presented, and like Waugh before him certainly entertained everybody in his inimitable way.

Closing out proceedings was Gareth Mutch and he was the one I had seen the least before. He makes issue of his voice and it certainly is different. Other stuff on attending college, ‘lads holidays’ and his lack of success with the fairer sex all followed and his time was over before we knew it.

This is a free entry show but a donation is requested on leaving, so for a few quid it is possible to witness an array of Scottish comedy talent before they make it big. Seems like a deal to me.
