Luke Toulson:- Grandpa, Hitler and Me 3***

| On 15, Aug 2015

I have always liked Luke Toulson as a performer and found him funny, erudite, always with well written material. He is not an in your face comic, rather letting his material and laid back style make his points.

This year’s offering comes about because 200 letters his grandpa Stanley wrote to Kate his granny during WW2 came into his possession and having spent time reading them, decided to dedicate this show as an informative homage to their enduring love. He gives a potted ‘back story’ of the pair, his Aunt Susan who maybe has a lot to answer for and tracks Stanley’s war career which includes Dunkirk, The Middle East and North Africa.

This performance is probably more storytelling than comedy. It has illustrations of some of the letters, commentary and explanations from Toulson and yes there are laughs along the way also, especially ‘translating’ for a young lady the differences in communication between then and now.

This is a good show which was interesting throughout without being sidesplittingly funny, and is certainly a very pleasant way to spend an hour during the afternoon.
