Alex Love – How to Win a Pub Quiz 3***
I suppose it is a bit unusual to go to a pub quiz around midday, but once inside the darkened venue it doesn’t really matter. This has all the ingredients required, available booze, quiz teams, a little tutorial on how to win a pub quiz and then having learned our new skills a genuine quiz finishes off proceedings.
The host and quiz master is Alex Love who mixes his ‘tutorial’ with gentle stand-up gathering laughs and a fair number of groans along the way, but entertaining one and all in the process.
Now I am a fan of pub quizzes and also stand-up so it seems a perfect mix for me, but it isn’t essential to be a quiz lover, it is fun for all.
The show thrives on audience interaction and the crowd who were in when I attended were certainly up for getting involved.
Love is a genial comic, and non-threatening. His choice of this vehicle to entertain worked and worked well. Obviously it is not ground-breaking, there is no higher message it’s just a fun way to spend an hour… and maybe win a prize as well along the way.
