Lynn Ruth Miller and Larah Bross: Gran Slam 3*** - One4Review
one4review | On 07, Aug 2016
Written by award-winning Keir McAllister and directed by Shauna Macdonald, this show is about a performer, Larah, and her relationship with the woman she most admires, her, grandmother played by Lynn Ruth Miller.
Larah starts the show by telling us how excited she is awaiting the arrival of her grandmother, about the wonderful, eventful, life she has had and about their special bond and even has pictures to prove it. When Grandma arrives, with her taxi driver (Gareth Mutch) in tow, the truth begins to unwind and Larah and Grandma do not share the same perception of their affinity to each other. We find rather than the stereotypical sweet old lady, what we get with Lynn Ruth Miller is a sassy, straight talking woman intent on growing old disgracefully. Both Larah and Lynn Ruth give good solo performances but also work well together bouncing lines off each other.
On the day I attended the show it was a fairly small numbers audience so it is difficult to gauge the crowd impression, but there were definitely quite a few laughs throughout and there are a few surprises along the way.
