California Dreaming – California Contemporary Ballet Theatre – 2**

| On 11, Aug 2017

The California Contemporary Ballet Company bring their sunny Californian performance to Edinburgh through their production of California Dreaming. They create the atmosphere by projecting picture postcards onto the backdrop of the stage and providing each member of the audience a little bag of Californian sand.
The programme consists of six acts put together by artistic director and choreographer Rebecca Witjas. The show opens with a joyful and playful performance of Modern Sonata. Vaughen Eells, the only male dancer within the group, and Linda Stiller provide an excellent performance Pas De Couer, a story about two young people discovering love. However, for me the highlight of the show was the beautiful and expressive performance by Ruth Fentroy of Song to the Moon.
There is a wide range of age and experience within the group. This was very much a Ballet School performance that takes you through the key elements of ballet. There were a few timing issues and mistakes during this performance but their sheer love of performing meant this did not detract too much from the overall programme.
