Beadledom-Omega 3* - One4Review

Beadledom Omega and Beadledom Alpha are companion pieces which play on alternate days and are brought to the festival by Famille De La Noche. I decided to view the female point of view first so headed to the Underbelly Cowgate to see Beadledom Omega.
Beadledom is the practice of officious authority by petty
bureaucrats. Accompanied by a combination of puppetry and atmospheric music, Deborah the clown ploughs away at her messy desk in an alternate universe, silently processing endless paperwork and observing the impact of her labours on humankind. After a slow start I really engaged with this piece as Deborah obviously yearned for change from the tedium and, as a result, tried to make a connection with the people below. Deborah was an engaging presence on stage and by her facial expressions was able to convey the underlying sadness of her life. The puppetry was more successful when Deborah was able to interact with the animation. A slow burner but plenty here to make me look forward to Beadledom Alpha.
