The subterranean venue for Last Resort gives this immersive piece of theatre an added edge as it is in complete contrast to the free cocktail, deckchairs and bags of sand (for toe dipping) that greet the audience on arrival. We are invited to spend our holiday in the resort of Guantanamo Bay with guides Tom and Eve looking after all our needs. As the hour proceeds, the holiday activities are less than benign (the meditation based on waterboarding is especially disturbing), and an audience discussion on ethics determines the outcome of one of the ‘games.’
Tom and Eve are engaging hosts, and Eve’s calming delivery has a decidedly sinister tone which added an extra frisson to the bingo session! If you want a thought provoking hour (and a delightful rum cocktail) head to The Machine Shop in Summerhall.
