There May Be Pirates… There May Be Dragons 3***

| On 09, Aug 2017

There may be pirates or there may be dragons, depending on which day you go – Dragons are on even numbered days, so that’s the tale we were told.

On being flyered, my 7 year old was promised a strong female heroine, and that’s just what she got. Storyteller ‘Gruff the troubadour’ weaved his tale of a little girl who finds a dragon egg. She keeps it safe, hatches it, then brings up baby, all in secret from her family, friends, and the rest of the village. But a quickly growing dragon can’t stay secret for long – and that’s where things start to go wrong.

The tale is told with vivid descriptions, harp music, and at the end, audience volunteers acting out roles. It’s a pity there isn’t more audience involvement sooner, but getting them participating for the ending does lift what might otherwise seem a slightly sad tale.

There May Be Pirates is told by Captain Jake, and I’m sure is equally engaging and fun for it’s target audience of age 4-10, and their parents.
