For ages now Jojo Sutherland has been known as a safe pair of hands in the comedy world, always to be relied on to deliver a quality performance and this year’s offering is no exception to the rule.
Jojo now in her 50’s has had to come to terms with being single for the first time in 23 years and all the admin that entails, NHS dates, technology advances, social media, dating apps and so on all get their exposure in the show. She talks about her family, there is so much scope with her kids, and previous marriages, it must be hard to know what to leave out of this hour.
And she is so self-deprecating at times too. A couple of her stories particularly stood out for me, exploits in a Sheffield Hotel and the tour de force piece about her trip to Glastonbury and the ensuing problems, were worth the admission money alone.
Jojo has presence, she has likeability and of course sells a well written story as well as anyone. She states that she doesn’t know what the future is, and who does? What I do expect is that this Grande Damme of Scottish comedy will be entertaining packed out audiences for as long time to come.
