Kate Barron - Losing Myself 4**** - One4Review

UK living Canadian comic Kate Barron opens gently with the difference between Canadian and American accents, how in England regional accents, even shopping habits are used to define or judge and how she has adopted the passive aggressive British trait in not complaining, prior to getting into the meat of the story she wants to tell.
Kate tells of her early life where she never was a skinny child and had always struggled with her weight, when does puppy-fat stop being just that? Then there was the family trait of pushing notes under bedroom doors to express disappointment.
The story leads through dating, pick-up culture, moving to a new country and of course the pandemic, an awful flight on Pegasus Airlines to Turkey during lockdown and what she underwent on the journey to losing 13 stone of weight following a risky medical procedure.
Fortunately, all went well, and Kate finds the courage and the funny in delivering this hour. It is obviously an emotional rollercoaster with the performer close to tears on occasion and the supportive crowd feeling the emotional pain described. However it is also a show that is peppered with laughs too.
Kate Barron may be a name I had never heard of before, but I am willing to bet it will not be the last time I hear it.
