Andrew O'Neill: Geburah 5***** - One4Review

Andrew O’Neill: Geburah 5*****

| On 12, Aug 2023

Andrew O’Neill’s natural optimism and love of the surreal, coupled with great comedic skills that have been long crafted, ensure that we relax and laugh along all the while during this unique, awe inspiring and fastmoving hour.

Yes the show is determinedly thought provoking and political, but that happens with such aplomb that it is refreshingly subtle and gentle. The audience undoubtedly has a great time laughing along with Andrew, with their nonbinary appearance seeming to actually enhance the vibe of this excellent late evening show.

Andrew’s stance on the King and property ownership for example are not so anarchically unusual, but the deftness and silliness about how these topics are approached and dealt with so adeptly is a delight. There are a host of brilliant jokes, stories and references to everyday stuff but all viewed through a fun neurodiverse lens, so we are treated to comedy with a different perspective and style.

Geburah is far from the standard standup comedy show, by instead being brilliantly different and one of a kind – as is Andrew. For those who have been searching for Edinburgh Fringe 2023’s most exciting and uniquely creative comedy experience which breaks the mould, this laughter filled show could be just the ticket.
