I first saw Patrick Monahan … can it really be 18 years ago, and took an instant liking to this very friendly and amiable comedian. And nearly two decades on he is still producing the goods.
Teeside born of Irish- Iranian heritage Monahan is definitely a people person and he includes everyone, and I mean every one in this hour of his Monahan magic.
Often eschewing the stage provided, Patrick wanders around speaking to everyone, gagging with them, cajoling information along the way, storing this up in his multitude of callbacks. I defy anyone who was there not to leave with a smile on their face, Patrick is just one of those comedians. You just have to have a good time.
He speaks a lot about relationships, jogging injuries, cost of living crisis, different times back in his youth, housing costs and also has a definite opinion of hair care products, always making a laugh, usually going to the audience for affirmation, using the info gathered previously to illustrate points and continue the inclusive atmosphere he has created from the off.
There was only one small niggle about the crowd I was in and that is there were not enough of them to really see this funny man fly. If he had a packed house then that is what he thrives on. This of course could be easily solved by going along in droves.
