The Scottish Sessions – Elsa Jean McTaggart 4.5 **** - One4Review

This 50 minute show is in essence an all to brief journey through the history of Scottish pop songs, but it is more than that . Billed as Elsa Jean McTaggart show in reality it is a double act with husband Gary Lister more than holding his own.
This is a part homage, part quiz, a lot of fun and it goes through decades selecting a number of hits which are duly performed by Elsa on guitars and fiddle, Gary on keys and the vocals shared between them.
Obviously there is a bit of banter, a pseudo rivalry between the ‘quiz teams’ and a whole lot of sing-a-long from the audience as they are serenaded with hits made famous by the likes Marmalade, Runrig, Stealers Wheel, Deacon Blue, KT Tunstall, Amy MacDonald, Wet, Wet,Wet amongst others, oh and not forgetting The Proclaimers obviously
All too soon the time was up and Elsa and Gary received a very richly deserved ovation from the enthusiastic crowd.
Where this could never be a challenging show, it was pure entertainment. I’m sure we could have enjoyed an hour more. Add to that the seats in the venue were very comfortable as well, which does help.
