Marlon Brando's Corset - One4Review

With such household names as Les Dennis, ‘Family Fortunes’ and Jeremy Edwards ‘Holby City’ & ‘Hollyoaks’ ably supported by comic genius Mike McShane, Perrier nominee, Jim Field Smith, Kellie Ryan and Jennifer Tollady, I would have expected a much greater audience although the Pleasance Grand is a huge space as far as Fringe venues are concerned. Perhaps the title ‘Marlon Brando’s Corset’ had put people off. Surely being told ‘The Cult of Celebrity demands sacrifices, stop whinging, pickup a body part and start digging!’ would intrigue an intrepid Fringe viewer. Just another day on the set of a hugely successful hospital drama, that is before the documentary crew arrive, shadowing, interviewing, filming, probing, just what will they discover?  What dirty secrets can they uncover?  Scriptwriter Nick Chase (Les Dennis) uncovers a closely guarded secret involving Will Swift (Jeremy Edwards) ,leading man and possibly soon to be celluloid Superhero.  Will Nick sell the secret to the highest bidder to pay off his gambling debts? Sarah (Kellie Ryan) the leading lady of the show a close friend of Nick’s is devastated to find out about his gambling, but hides the secret of her romance with a colleague. Jack Picardo (Jim Field Smith) originally contracted to be the romantic lead attempts to thwart Will at every turn attempting to upstage him whenever he can. The dolly bird nurse in the show, Alyson (Jennifer Tollady) is willing to trade favours to get as many lines as possible.  The shows Director Alex Summers (Mike McShane) finds himself directing things on and off the stage to save the show. Well written, beautifully performed and very funny, this show is as much worth seeing for the content as for the performers. ****
