Bombay to Beijing by Bicycle - One4Review

This show is the antidote for those who have been bored by tame TV travel programmes.   Australian Russell McGilton’s solo play is a highly individualistic and very animated account of an epic journey. His inspiration for the journey was a book written by a stiff upper lip type English Army Brigadier from around the 1920’s. India has its dangers and McGilton succumbed to malaria and dysentery. Here we have the depiction of these two maladies in the most physical and graphic ways possible. There is much realistic screeching. Along the way, he meets up with and splits with his girlfriend. He befriends Tony who pops up from time to time and accompanies him on the final leg of the journey. Great fun and never a dull moment with several surprises along the way. ***
