‘Elegies for Angels, Punks and Raging Queens’ is a musical, which despite being around for some time is neither often performed nor well known. Part of the problem is the lack of any catchy refrains but the subject matter has also lost some of its initial terror. We are inclined to forget the Aids HIV problem has not disappeared if anything it is on the increase again. Elegies is a celebration of those lost through the disease rather than a totally morbid obituary. Very difficult to stage and decide what is in and what to cut, plus the performance space has its restrictions. The Latymer Theatre company performs it very sensitively, utilising their casts individual talents and it is cleverly directed despite the obvious limitations in the area. ***
