The Grandee Way - One4Review

The Grandees theatrical comedy combine camp humour with a science fiction send up. There are really two stories going on. It is 1983 and drag queen Martini is the owner of a night club in Soho. His friend Paul is middle aged and a former dancer. The club is heading for financial disaster and Martini needs to win a talent competition to maintain the club’s survival. Down in the basement flat a strange family have moved in. They are the Grandees, an intergalactic family of space travellers. They have a mission to destroy the night club and with it the man with the claw hand. The show takes on the form of a musical comedy with dance sequences and songs. The comedy is patchy with some funny dance routines but some scenes fall short of the mark. The three players (Marny Godden, Tom Turner, and Andrew Mudie) perform with confidence and energy, and there is a neat ending.   ***
