Mark Nelson: Older than Jesus 4**** - One4Review
one4review | On 17, Aug 2015
It says something about Mark Nelson that he won The Scottish Comedian of the Year a year after his first open spot gig, was it really 8 years ago?
Since then he has progressed and matured, well at 34 he is now older than Jesus, and his show this year is partly a comparison to where their lives were at about the same age.
Opening with some local references to the Referendum, the Glasgow Commonwealth games and living in Glasgow he proceeds to opine on Jesus and his achievements, Ed Sheeran, parenting and the lack of controls and the USA influencing the UK culture such as Halloween.
Nelson is without doubt an educated and clever comic. His sets are always well written and packed with laughs, even if on occasions you question if you should be laughing at the material. And he does like to moan periodically. No strutting or posturing for him however just a professionally delivered hour of occasionally thought provoking stuff mixed together with more standard targets.
