Victoria Wood + Me: Mo Shapiro 3*** - One4Review

There can be no doubt that Victoria Wood has gone down in the annuls of time as a national treasure and has legions of fans. Rightly too. It is an honour therefore that Ms Wood has given access to a selection of her better material to be used in this clever and funny show.
The impressions of Wood are done through a character Gladys Winter who was born on the same day in the same year, even in the same hospital and is her greatest fan and while playing this role dropping into impressions, both sketches and also songs Ms Shapiro pays homage to her hero while adding her own touch.
The show I attended was packed full of Victoria Wood fans who lapped up the material and performance, one guy in particular laughed so long and hard I feared for his health yet most were as equally enthralled just not so loud. While it is not imperative to have an intimate knowledge of Victoria Wood’s material to enjoy the show, should you have such knowledge I’m sure the experience would be enhanced.

Loved the show (no I wasn’t the guy above) really polished performance from Shapiro who clearly adores the material as much as we all do. Unlike some shows I’ve seen, I’d definitely go and see it again. A real treat.
