Sophie Willan On Record 4**** - One4Review

Sophie Willan On Record 4****

| On 23, Aug 2016

Sophie Willan is another performer doing her debut hour at the Fringe. It is always good to make an impression early on and boy does she do it. Dancing onto her stage Ms Willan demonstrates her three ‘killer moves the shimmy, the wiggle and the twerk even getting a slightly eager audience member to get a masterclass in learning them and with the barriers broken down launches into the set.
Due to a heroin addicted mother she was raised in care for a majority of her young life and it was fairly recently she was handed her school and social work records that showed her somewhat disruptive early life, and this Bolton born lass is happy to share these with the sell-out crowd.
It is not a dark piece, she seems a singularly well adjusted adult now, albeit one who has had loads of problems and a lot of therapy. She also has an Iggy Pop like mother and a zebra print wearing gran yet has genuine affection for all of her slightly dysfunctional family.
Her personality and the humour she draws from these issues insure that it is an uplifting hour, packed out with laughs showing that it is possible to get through even the most trying times. definitely an hour worth spent.
