Lucie Pohl – Really, Really, Really, Really, Really, Really Real 4****

| On 03, Aug 2019

Lucie Pohl has become one of my favourite performers at the fringe and never disappoints. Her relaxed manner and oodles of charisma have the audience onside with her dynamic performance from the off.
In her show this year Lucie covers many topics, her experiences both personal, and professional from her love life to her “celebrity status” as the voice of Mercy in the video game Overload. She discusses the trials and tribulations of some of her previous relationships, her not so luxurious living conditions and as I often find at Lucie’s shows every day is a school day. This time I learned what demisexual means and that there’s a whole world of erotica out there that has completely passed me by.
Her numerous comic-con visits are entertainingly recounted, with amusing insider gossip, and with her characterisations as always being spot on. We’re reminded of how far she has come from her waitressing days in the Big Apple Balls of Meat and how easily things can change. She examines the downside to celebrity and in this social media age can we be certain anything or anyone is really real.
In a more muted phase as she winds down the show Lucie dissects much of her earlier narrative and gets real, further endearing her to the audience.
I would highly recommend this very engaging show. The time flies by and everyone leaves with a smile on their face.
