Kai Humphries – Mischief! 4.5 ****

| On 10, Aug 2022

Kai Humphries, a native of Blyth in the Northeast of England has been around the comedy circuit for a while, I first saw him way back in 2009, when he was already showing the ability that has been honed over the last decade.

He is an amiable Geordie and an hour spent in his company is like having a chat with a mate in the pub. He may be in the spotlight and the conversation is a little one sided, but he seems totally down to earth and happy to be doing what he does.

Kai, of working-class stock regales the sold out Stand with a myriad of anecdotes and stories of him growing up on his estate, a completely different type of estate than posh folk might know, scraps with rival groups, strange nicknames and terrorising innocent neighbours, mini discs, Nokia texting all under the stewardship of matriarch Linda.

This life is then compared with Kai of today. Married, been known to drink prosecco and watch theatre, he even has a dog who he thinks the world of and expands on some of the things they do together.

Briefly he talks about 2020 and early issues prior to the inevitable lockdowns. Unlike some it is a brief section before the closing section of a visit to a gym in his new abode in Glasgow. And that was it. Where had the hour gone? We all wanted more and if time had permitted, I’m sure he would have obliged. But this is the Fringe so it couldn’t happen.

Oh well there’s always next year!
