Alisdair Beckett-King – Nevermore 3.5 ***

| On 09, Aug 2022

Once you have seen Alisdair Beckett-King it is impossible to forget him, even if it is only for his mane of flame red hair and similar beard. But that is not all that he has going for him by far. He has a huge following of fans and the sold-out signs are on his gigs more often than not.

Beckett-King is also something of a multimedia expert too and his hour features some of his animations, mini movies and ‘phone calls’ that are sandwiched into the proceedings.

As a half English, half Scottish performer, from the North East of England, he claims to always disappoint the Scots, claims to love the sea, but never swims in it and his set covers such diverse subjects some of which include working on a deadly pier, thistles, bathroom décor, school days, incorrect targeting of on-line adverts, job title changes and many more.

There is a slightly interactive feeling to the show as well, he sets up a gag and when the audience groaned at the punchline, did it twice again, each time a different ending still awaiting a satisfactory ending.

This was a show that occasionally split the audience, some people loving every second others less impressed at times. Me? I was somewhere in the middle.

3.5 ***
