Marjolein Robertson – Thank God Fish Don’t Have Hands 4****

There is no doubt that Marjolein Robertson is a very competent, engaging comic, has stage presence and knows how to write and relate an hour of very funny stories.

Hailing from Shetland, a real island group north of Scotland, certainly not a made up one that an audience member thought in a previous show, her growing up on a croft, sheep for friends, everybody knowing everybody, hell most of them are related prior to leaving for university in the big city.

Uni stories and challenges, lockdown breakups, salted lamb, the ‘year of 52’, no go find out for yourselves, TikTok target adverts and time management ensue. Marjolein moves on to talk about being diagnosed as having ADHD, a condition that probably explains many of her issue. And ever inventive has created an old school, homemade diagram to explain the condition in layman’s terms, yet making it funny in the process.

She is much in demand in Scottish media, and it is easy to understand why yet there is no doubt that she has the ability as a live stand-up as well. Her crowd work, demonstrated often during the hour is excellent, inclusive and non-threatening and she is certainly one to watch.
