Danny Bhoy – Dear World 4.5 **** - One4Review
one4review | On 21, Aug 2024
For more than 25 years now Danny Bhoy has been performing his brand of comedy to the world, although due to a relatively low-profile on ‘the box’ he is probably not as well-known a comic as many of his peers. Bhoy however, has a massive following playing live, be it in his native Scotland, the USA, Canada or where he absolutely is loved in Australia and New Zealand.
Danny, an Edinburgh resident, was a late entry into Fringe 2024, and although playing at a non-traditional comedy hour is packing out the upside-down purple cow daily.
Dear World, a show that pays homage to his award-winning ‘Dear Epson’ of a decade ago, is typical of Danny’s performances. There are no histrionics, he ambles about his stage chatting amiably, generating laughs at will in between going kinda old-school, reading from fictitious letters that he has ‘written’ to various people and organisations, and as always packed with well observed, comedic writings, delivered by him perched on a stool.
Danny Bhoy is a top comic there is no doubt, and there are fewer chances to see him than with most. If you have seen him before you’ll know, if you haven’t seen him before, then why not? There is still, maybe, a chance to catch him this year but tickets are going fast.
