Micheline Sings Brel 4 Stars **** - One4Review

Having been away from the Fringe for a few years while she had a family it is a treat to have this Belgian chanteuse back amongst us this year doing what she does best entertaining adoring fans with the song and a little history of her fellow countryman Jacques Brel.
I have liked the music of Brel for a long time and although I hadn’t seen there is usually an act or two doing a tribute to his music generally in English, but to have the songs in a mixture of French and English added a special touch.
The show being staged in the Famous Spiegeltent where the man himself once performed added to the atmosphere but the music of the man, the amazing voice of Micheline and the playing of guitar virtuoso Bert all combined to make this a memorable hour. A selection of some of best loved numbers were performed, but of course all couldn’t be squeezed into the hour long set. The audience were encouraged to join in in some of the choruses and most went for it but a little jarring to me was the request to Tweet her while she was off stage changing costumes.
This was a thoroughly enjoyable show, one I could recommend to any lover of Brel .
