Shappi Khorsandi – Because I’m Shappi 5*****

| On 12, Aug 2014

Shappi Khorsandi has been a regular at the Edinburgh Fringe for many years and starts off the show by apologising for her absence last year as she was busy giving birth to her daughter, a sister for her 6 year old son, Cassius. Shappi instantly engages with the audience as if they were old friends and the next hour just flies by.

Her comical anecdotes about her children, her friends and how the relationship with each of them differs depending on the stage of life you met. Her very non conventional family, who fled to England from Iran as her dad was a satirist and wrote a poem that was slightly controversial resulting in him receiving death threats. Stories of relationships, sex, libido and porn during pregnancy, her children’s fathers among many more topics ensue with Shappi amiably relating it all in her uniquely entertaining and humorous style. Her witty observations such as the transition from childhood to adulthood and how this and making new friends differs between the sexes are also enthralling. The audience are captivated by her casual, friendly and candid performance as they can identify with her and her accounts about daily life.

An excellent show which was almost a sell out the day I was there so get your tickets while you can.
