Tom Ward Love Machine 3*** - One4Review

Tom Ward Love Machine 3***

| On 15, Aug 2017

I first saw Tom Ward do a club set in London about 18 months ago and was blown away. And since then I have been waiting to have that happen again. To date, for me, it hasn’t happened.
There is no doubt he still has the potential, his audience work at the onset of his latest hour was excellent and yes there were a number of laughs through the hour, but some bits left me very unmoved.
The usual sort of chatter about his haircut, the love of dancing, now living alone he has started leaving himself post-it notes, encounters with the ladies and his upbringing, even the ‘appearance’ of his mother towards the end were entertaining, even if the front row member dragged up to assist in the segment may not have thought so it, appeared. His attempt at beatboxing and live-looping had mileage and were another string to his comedy bow.
I feel Ward may well appeal more to a younger demographic than the make-up of his audience at the show I attended. There can be no doubt he has all the ability he needs to be a great success, but for me, and quite a few others in his crowd, maybe this is not the one to catapult him to stardom.
