Divorce is a tough topic for a stand comedy show, particularly when it is so personal and heartfelt. Hal Cruttenden can do the self deprecating jovial, “I’m not bitter” and “it’s actually quite amicable” routine effortlessly and still be very funny. You would expect nothing less from a Fringe veteran, having been nominated way back in 2002 for an Edinburgh Comedy Award. Hal has also appeared on such high profile shows as; Mock the Week, Live At the Apollo and Have I Got News For You.

The sold out show is not exclusively on the divorce theme. There are other equally as life affirming, jovial topics explored. Such as: death, the challenges of parenting and even the merits of giving up a child up for adoption, just to reunite, and miss out all the rubbish times in between. Thought provoking stuff!

Hal admitted to having to trim the material down for tonight’s show to fit into the hour long slot. There is so much more to come. I’m already looking forward to his next stand up tour. He’s only just getting started on the treasure trove of material to come; dating in your fifties, the dating Apps.. there’s a whole new world out there.

A very funny, effortlessly delivered and most candid show from Hal. There is also some hilarious interaction with cleverly selected audience members running throughout.

The Cabaret Bar at The Pleasance is a cosier venue for Hal from previous years and the run is selling out fast. Catch this show if you can!
