Diane Spencer – Hurricane Diane 4 Star **** - One4Review

It isn’t often when entering a venue one witnesses the comic actually building their set on stage but this flame haired funny lady was building a roof. Yeah really, but there was a reason.
As in previous years Ms Spencer’s show is well written and delivered and packed out with funny material and anecdotes and she is a commanding figure.
Once the set is complete and the audience is in place she relates episode of her life story from growing up in Dorset, her unusual family and new relationship and in her somewhat dark humour style she tells of several somewhat intimate episodes of her more recent life in perhaps just a little too much graphic detail for a few, although her pleasing smile and self-deprecating manner does take the edge off it.
Artists use paint to depict their work, Ms Spencer uses well-crafted words and stories to illustrate her art, words that ensured her set was full of genuine laugh out loud moments. It is a testament to her and the show that although the room was uncomfortably hot the hour just flew by and I’m sure all would have been happy to listen for longer.
