Ruby and the Vinyl – The John Godber Company 4****

| On 17, Aug 2016

This wonderfully written story by John and Elizabeth Godber is set in a vintage store in Hull. Ruby Mackintosh is the composer of the music; looking stunning in her vintage dress she sets each scene with her wonderful acoustic repartee.
Tom (played by Jake Marsden) is a quirky character who meets up with the outgoing Lily (played by Grace Chritiansen) whilst browsing in the local vintage store. They soon discover that they have a lot in common, notably their love of box sets on Netflix. This soon becomes their obsession and escape from reality.
The story has plenty of twists and humour throughout. Both Jake and Grace make Tom and Lily’s characters so loveable that you can feel the audience routing for their happy ending. The songs fitted in well with the script, with the cast providing outstanding harmonies throughout.
This was a really uplifting piece of musical theatre and would recommend this to cheer your day up.
