Big bad pirates, a wise-cracking parrot, X-marked treasure maps, cheeky monkeys, gold doubloons and a treasure chest – all the important elements of a priatey show were here, with plenty of silly piratey jokes, and an audience participation “We’ve found the Treasure” dance.

With the aid of a few wigs, hats, and false beards, the cast of two managed to portray all the key characters of Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic novel. Long John Silver, Captain Flint (boo!) Jim Hawkins of the Benbo Inn, Billy Bones, Ben Gunn, and a very camp mermaid… though that last may have been a cheeky plot device.

Of course, some of the more gruesome elements of the novel may have been glossed over for the sake of the audience, who ranged from about age 2 upwards, but the quest was fun, engaging, and fast-paced, with the high energy of the cast sweeping the audience with them to the inevitable conclusion – treasure!
