Mavis Sparkle 5***** - One4Review

Mavis Sparkle 5*****

| On 17, Aug 2017

Every now and then the Fringe surprises us with a little gem of show. Mavis Sparkle is one such show. It tells the story of Mavis, a cleaning lady, who dreams of adventure. She takes to the stage with a cleaning trolley full of surprises, such a Spike her pet hedgehog, a mobile mop bucket, top hats and disco ball.
Eve Robertson plays the part of Mavis beautifully. She is the only actor on stage, but does so brilliantly. The props and lighting are done amazing well. My daughter was mesmerized by this show, and said it was her favourite show of the festival.
We learn that Mavis’s father was a magician and her mother a dancer, and together they toured the country in their campervan. She tells us this while cleaning and looking for new employment. There is a touch of sadness to Mavis’s story, but this sadness changes to optimism as she decides to realise her dream.
This show is 50mins long which flew by, and is billed as suitable for children over four, which feel about right.
Overall, a beautifully performed and produced show, a must see this year.
