Stuart Mitchell :- Gordon Ramsay’s Karma Café 3*** - One4Review

Stuart Mitchell :- Gordon Ramsay’s Karma Café 3***

| On 11, Aug 2018

Just to get things straight from the off, Stuart is nothing like Gordon Ramsay, probably the shared nationality is the only thing but he says he has been instructed to make this statement from the off.

His 2016 Edinburgh show dealt with the death of his father, a careful, nice man and for this year’s offering there are still plenty of references to him, yet this is a show of two halves.

The title references a meal Stuart and his new bride had at one of Gordon Ramsay’s restaurants whilst on their honeymoon and the way everything went whilst enjoying the ‘fine dining experience’ at the 3 Michelin star eatery. Mitchell has ample portions of funny material, quips and reference points, the laughs are there and his delivery excels.

Then we have part two, his epiphany. Stuart goes into what could be seen as a disclosure. He has not always been the down to earth comedian he is now. Oh no. Where the first section was both funny and illuminating the second part was almost a confessional with few laughs, but we do learn a lot and in most cases are aghast at the goings on.

Certainly different from the usual fare on offer, yet it makes one think …a lot.
