Gavin Webster: – Buddhism and Other Such Rubbish 3.5 ***

| On 21, Aug 2019

I have always liked Gavin Webster as a comedian. The Geordie funny man has the demeanor of maybe ‘Old School’, and a bit shouty, but beneath this veneer, there is a very clever and funny man who always breaks through and harvests the laughs.
Another of his traditions is to have show titles that deliberately seem controversial but in essence have little bearing on the content, and he is at pains to tell us repeatedly that this is the case. But is it?
The meat of the hour is about what has changed in the world, things that were dismissed as ‘it was different times then’ but was it? The deed was the same be it racism, sexism, LBGTQI issues. Whether it is a guy in the pub or a High Street chain, it is down to opinions. Gavin has opinions on what precipitated some changes in life today corner shops, take-aways, Austin cars, the collapse of more traditional industry, university recruitment and of course politics.
Webster is always worth catching. His no nonsense style is different from a lot, and it is always good to have a varied menu in anything isn’t it?
