Laura Lexx:- Knee Jerk 5***** - One4Review

It can’t be very often that I have come out from what is a 5 star show with a tinge of disappointment. But I did with this show. Not for the comedian or the content which were first class, but for some reason the capacity audience just didn’t seem to be giving the due credit to what they were seeing. That was very disappointing to me.
Laura Lexx is a pocket dynamo of energy, she has a wicked sense of humour has charisma and stage presence to spare and produces year after year a show that mixes her personal issues with wider problems, blending them together with the skill few can muster.
Her mental health issues are well documented, the struggle to achieve motherhood also, and these she has probably come to terms with, quote, ‘put a lid on’ but not a substantial one.
Ms Lexx also deals with political issues, cleverly avoiding the B word by substituting a football team every time it may crop up, feminism, climate change and the fear in some areas of the Robots taking over. Maybe they are already doing so in some aspects in Dubai culture. The final routine highlighting the pros and cons of football versus netball were worth the ticket price alone.
I mentioned earlier that the audience were not the most vociferous and the show did need feedback on occasions. I just loved her instinctive work around, just another facet that made this one of my favourite hours this Fringe.
Tickets are likely to be scarce now as we approach the end of Fringe 2019, but if you do manage to get one then in my opinion you will be seeing a gem of a show.
