Nathan D’Arcy Roberts Present / Tense 4****

| On 09, Aug 2023

An abrupt and confident start to the show sees Nathan make visual comparisons with himself and Prince which to be fair isn’t too far off the mark despite the lack of singing. A bit of improv with the audience and it wasn’t long before the laughter started. He discusses his mixed-race origin and how the public have approached the subject with him in a canny, yet amusing way with his replies being notably funny.

More interaction with the audience provided us with a female from the USA attending school over here instead of school in the USA and when Nathan provided his thinking as to why that was, it was a moment of thought yet dare I say it, funny improvised consequence. He then discusses his girlfriend from South Africa with more comparisons, look out for his answer to his girlfriend’s question, ‘What’s your porn login name’! We then move on to the subject of cooking. He explains how family recipes are handed down through the generations from one family member to another but when it came to him, he had to hand it back to his mother with a clever and hilarious reason for doing so.

Next up was McDonalds and his description of attending a 24hr McDonalds after midnight had everyone laughing as they could relate to his hilarious description on a personal level. Even the noisy Air-con machine in the corner of the set didn’t escape his attention, stating it was the noisiest prop he had ever worked with!

Although Nathan informed the audience he was half Jamaican, he stated he lived in Luton and when asked if anyone had been to Luton, most people agreed they had, however he followed that up with ‘Excluding the airport?’ which was extremely funny coupled with his facial expression. He then explains the rules of shooshing and how to react when being shooshed, again his open opinion and facial expression turn this everyday thing into a moment of comedy. The show then ends as abruptly as it started.

Nathan D’Arcy Roberts delivers a steady mixture of improv and scripted material suitable for a wide range audience with plenty of fun and laughter throughout.
