Gordon Southern – Your New Favourite Comedian 4**** - One4Review

Gordon Southern first graced the Fringe in 2001 the same year as one of his favourite bands The Hives released their album Your New Favourite Band so the homage to them is the basis of his show title he explains at the onset.
That said it was down to business and a lot about the earlier life of our new favourite Essex boy. Drinking, an unrequited first love, early jobs as a barman followed by a sommelier prior to attending university to study Drama followed.
I think the story of a vineyard tour of Australia with other comics during the Adelaide Fringe festival gives Gordon ample scope to showcase his comedic and writing abilities and he grabs the chance with both hands, but there isn’t anything shabby about his other material either especially his closing story which I just loved.
Southern works hard on stage, he has loads of material, good interaction skills with his audience yet is non-threatening while doing this. He is an experienced campaigner who knows how to play his audience and it is little wonder he is as popular as he is. And that’s a fun fact.
