Lucie Pohl: Cry me a Liver 4**** - One4Review
one4review | On 10, Aug 2015
Lucie Pohl uses this hour at the Fringe to showcase her very talented acting ability. With the use of minimal props she changes between characters seamlessly and is able to contort her face so skilfully, from the attractive woman that she is into a less appealing Brooklyn bum. With a simple change of hat, wig, coat or facial expression she goes through an array of characters from an Italian lothario to Putin’s sperm, high achieving mother of 6 year old, a Sia wannabe, obsessive mind and body healer and more. Her ability to use a range of voices and accents is also superb, another credit to the Pohl family heritage perhaps?
The show is clever and funny, not laugh a minute funny, but well thought out and well executed by Lucie. She brings her characters to life and although exaggerated versions of people, she hits the mark with her characterisations. Many of them are philosophers working out a cure to make the world a better place and most have a message to share.
The audience appeared to be enjoying the show and there were many laughs throughout. It is completely different from last year’s Hi Hitler show but shows the versatility of the performer.
