Grant Stott – Tales from Behind the Mic 4****

| On 11, Aug 2016

For many in the Edinburgh area Grant Stott is an integral part of their everyday life as he hugely popular host of Forth One’s morning show. But aware as they may be of the radio persona, what of the man and how did he get where he is today.
There is no doubting his charisma and bonhomie, his use of the performing space as he chats us through his early life, his short career as a ‘polis’, club deejaying and mention of his much acclaimed panto work annually in Edinburgh liberally sprinkled with laugh-out-loud moments.
The performance is peppered with photos and clips from phone-ins and presenter bloopers, most of which would not be broadcastable, but the sell-out crowd lapped them up with glee.
I suppose it is a show that would go down best with his listeners or at least locally based people with the references of places, people and programmes, however there is enough in the show for everyone.
And then of course there is the finale. Stott performed a pastiche of ‘That’s Life’ at the Forth Awards ceremony a few years ago and ‘That’s Fife’ has haunted him ever since. This is no other way to end a fine show.
