George Egg: Movable Feast – 4****

| On 14, Aug 2019

George Egg is a chef and comedian, who specialises in cooking food in unusual locations. This time it’s on moving vehicles, trains and planes, and he begins by taking out his laptop and plugging it into the power socket of a train carriage. As soon as we realise it’s not a laptop, but it’s actually a George Forman grill, we know we are in for a treat, and very soon amusing anecdotes and appetising food smells start wafting across the audience. Egg cooks three courses – a vegetarian aubergine dish for starters, a fish course cooked in a hub cap with a butane torch and a chicken Caesar salad with the chicken cooked in a car engine and the salad tossed in a cement mixer, which has to be, according to Egg, the king of the tossers! Moving Feast is certainly something a bit different and is an enjoyable hour of Fringe entertainment, with the audience even invited to taste the food at the end. Egg keeps things moving along with his engaging comedy, verging on stand-up at times, and takes in Ariana Grande, Waitrose and his failing eyesight. He even gives us a couple of between-course poems. Overall the show is both entertaining and educational and is highly recommended.
