The tale Stacey Burrows tells, of her alcoholic brother, her own desire to help, and guns in Texas, with a full supporting cast populated by her interesting family, is one of the wildest of wild rides, and more so because it’s based on real events. For most comedians who relate tales of their lives, there’s an understanding that complete veracity might be sacrificed for a punchline. That’s not the sense you get from Ms Burrows – not because it’s not funny – but because it’s hard to imagine why you would make up such consistently horrible stuff.

There show covers some distressing topics, including suicide and animal death, though not in depth or in detail, and Ms Burrows does an excellent job of relating sufficient facts to tell the story and set the foundation for the funny without being too graphic. And though some of the events are awful, she does remind us at the start we’ve come to a comedy show, and it is okay to laugh at stuff.

Ms Burrows is a natural storyteller, and while this isn’t laugh-a-minute comedy, it’s an entertaining hour. At points the timeline of the story was a little unclear, and it might have been nice to hear more about the character of the people involved, but overall this is a show with fascinating source material that’s worth a punt.
