The Extraordinary Time-Travelling Adventures of Baron Munchausen 4****

| On 06, Aug 2022

Storytelling is one of our favourite types of children’s show and this show did not let us down. There are three excellent actors who take to the stage: an admiral, a spaceman and a noble lady. They are all acquaintances of the legendary Baron Munchausen and with the help of the audience they tell their madcap stories.

Sometimes audience participation can feel a bit forced but this was done spectacularly well. The kids were bouncing in their seats, arms up, desperate to add their contribution to the story. Our favourite story belonged to the admiral: he told us about how he once happened to be in possession 101 dalmatians. Sounds simple enough, but once the audience added their bits, it was a story like no other – and that is the beauty of this show. Every show is different as the stories depend entirely on what the audience says. Although the admiral was our favourite the spaceman and noble lady’s stories were also funny and engaging.

There are plenty of opportunities for kids to get up on stage too, whether it be to help to power a time machine or to break into a farm at midnight.

The fringe guide suggests it is suitable for kids aged 7-12 but there were certainly much younger kids there who were enjoying it. A must see for lovers of storytelling and laughs.
