Daliso Chaponda: Blah, Blah, Blah Blacklist 4**** - One4Review
one4review | On 08, Aug 2019
Daliso Chaponda originates from Malawi in Central Africa, a country most famous for supplying children for American singers to adopt he quips at the top of the show which drew a huge laugh from the packed out crowd. And he was off, commanding his stage, telling his stories, engaging with the audience confidently plying his not inconsiderable talents for all to enjoy.
Chaponda starts with a number of lighter weight gags to warm up the crowd before moving to the more meaty stuff, the lack of positive role models and even some that used to be are now flawed, racism, Twitter and the fact that is is now on a list of comedians that are called up to comment on some news items. It seems that having had a successful stint on Britain’s Got Talent maybe he is becoming a role model.
He thinks there is more ignorance around, the Oxfam ads can lead people to believe the worst. His father was a major player in both the UN and Malawi politics, his public schooling teaching European history and languages, not African, but he muses that this can be fixed.
Politics, suggested corruption, blackmail and court trials and even hiring a spy are featured towards the conclusion of this well put together, educational but overall very funny hour delivered by a comic with talent to burn.
