Stephen Bailey: Should’ve been a Popstar 4****

| On 20, Aug 2015

I don’t know if Stephen Bailey should have been a pop star. I haven’t heard him sing. I think he is doing a bit more than alright in his career as a stand-up comedian, and judging by the way his sold out house reacted they would agree with me.

He has charisma, he has his own style, he has a wicked line in material and the ability to go off piste with crowd work that is achingly funny, except maybe if you are the very straight man, who Stephen himself camper than a row of tents, is heavily flirting with.

He talks of his childhood in Manchester, his love hate relationship with social media, what his parents would like him to do for them when he is properly famous, an unexpected revelation of sporting prowess and his TV auditions and of course dating and Grindr are subjects covered during his hour.

Having seen his 2014 show I have to say what a difference a year makes. While last year’s offering was a pretty good show, this exuberant young comic has certainly upped his game and then some and I am confident he with continue in the same vein in the future.
