On a particularly dull Tuesday afternoon, musical comedian Kate Lucas thought she was moments from death, but spoiler alert, she wasn’t, ‘cause she is definitely alive and kicking performing her debut Fringe show, inspired by events as the dying thoughts flashed through her mind.
Over the next hour she entertains her enthusiastic packed audience to a mixture of stand-up and self-penned songs that drew laughter and appreciation through out.
For me she was far stronger in the music sections than in the stand-up, she is a good guitarist and has a cutting satirical writing style that delivers. Sometimes the complex words and emotions she manages to combine with relatively simple catchy tunes. At times her vocals reminded me a little of an early Lily Allen.
There is no doubt that the lady has talent to spare and yet while music and comedy are not everybody’s thing, there can be no doubt that there will be a place at the comedy table for her for many years to come.
