Pss Pss - Compagnia Baccala - 4**** - One4Review

Dozens of people asking, “Is this the queue for Pss Pss?” was an amusing pre-show situation in itself, so we were in a good mood as we entered Assembly Roxy. By the time we left, we were still giggling with delight, such was the infectious mood created by Compagnia Baccalá, two clowns from Switzerland. I was accompanied by my 14 year old daughter, and, as every parent knows, teenagers are difficult to impress. Well, this one was completely bowled over by the wit, charm and talent of Camilla Pessi and Simone Fassari.
The show combines mime, trapeze, acrobatics, juggling, accordion playing, clowning and slapstick in a simultaneously old-fashioned (in a good way) and contemporary mixture. The real key to the show’s success lies in the truly heart-warming relationship between the two characters. They convey so much emotion with a single glance or a gesture, it is quite extraordinary!
Although the programme notes recommend the show for those aged 8 and upward, there were younger children at the performance who were obviously enjoying it very much indeed. There was an element of audience interaction, which worked very well. A segment of the show involving an ordinary step-ladder was hilarious, and very cleverly choreographed. There is a real skill to successful slapstick, and these two are masters.
A very funny, sweet show, starring two immensely talented people.
