Ballistic 4**** - One4Review

| On 04, Aug 2017

I have to admit I approached the cosy Pleasance This with trepidation on a warm and very soggy August afternoon given the apparent size of the venue and the general dampness of everyone’s clothes in the queue but I needn’t have worried – the space was perfect for this taut hour of drama influenced by Elliot Rodger’s shooting spree in California in 2014.
Mini Mall’s production spans the comedy and tragedy of the life of an outsider. Spanning the years from youthful embarrassed fumblings to student life struggling to make meaningful contact with those around him, the protagonist finds solace, peace and success in the cyber world which leads to tragic consequences in the real world. The music and lighting on the sparse set enhanced the tension as we reached the horrific climax of the play.
Mark Conway is fantastic, bringing pathos to the central character who struggles to connect with those around him. Alex Packer’s script mixes humour and tragedy and kept the audience on the edge of their seats until the end. Highly recommended.
